Birth Doula Services

What is a birth doula?

The word “doula” comes from the ancient Greek meaning “a woman who serves”.  In modern times, a doula can be any person who is an experienced, trained professional who provides support to a family during the pregnancy months and during the labor and delivery of a baby.  At North Sound Birth Collective, Robin is highly qualified to work with families during this special time.  In addition to providing information and guidance during pregnancy for birth preparation, doulas offer continuous physical and emotional support during and just after birth.

Studies continue to show that having a doula attend your birth can have a significant positive impact on the experience, both physically and emotionally. Doula support can contribute to shorter labors, less incidence of intervention and complications, and fewer cases of postpartum depression. Along with assisting the birthing parent, we also provide much-needed support to partners or family members who are present during the birthing experience.  Parents with strong support during birth report greater confidence in parenting, less problems with breastfeeding, and feeling more successful in adapting to life after baby joins the family. A doula’s role is to support each family in the way that is best for that individual family through education, inspiration, and empowerment.  Your doula is a part of your support team, working with your family and care provider.

North Sound Birth Collective strives to provide exactly the level of support you desire through late pregnancy and birth. Talk to us about what services would best help you have the most comfortable and supported birth possible.

Robin has acquired a broad range of experiences including births at home, birth centers or hospitals, high risk mothers, VBAC/HBAC, medicated or non-medicated, cesarean births, water births, mothers who are abuse survivors, teen mothers and any and all types of family structures.
